CD drive misbehaving

My XP system has a DVD drive and a CD drive. My Microsoft updates are
current.

All of a sudden, the CD drive is opening every time I boot the system. I
will close it and it will re-open.

I don't think that it is haunted but I am beginning to wonder.

Any suggestions for solving this one would be appreciated.

This is most often caused by a defective drive. Replace it.
