cd drive is not working

my cd drive will pick up cds in the drive but it will run for about 2 seconds
then stop and start again for 3 then stop and then four seconds and then it
starts over, i cant boot in beggining for reinstalling xp and normal cds wont
autostart, it wont quit either, it will keep restarting until i pop out the
disk on my notebook. Plz help

Suggest you replace the drive, then.
