cd drive file system

In my computer,CD drive (D:) properties, the file system says "unknown" and
the local disk (C:) is NTFS. The question is how do I "CREATE" a applicable
file system for this drive and what should it be?

If your D drive is a separate hard disk, you create a file system when you
format the disk. You should use NTFS.

If your D drive is a partition on a hard disk, you create a file system when
you format the partition. You should use NTFS.

If your D drive is a removable drive (CD or DVD) it has the file system of
whatever optical media is in the drive. Optical media can be formatted in
many ways, depending on how you intend to use the disk.

Thanks for the schooling, believe me I need it. So, since the drive is for
CD/DVD removable storage, and the file type is determined when the disk is
put physically into the drive (D:) why then when I perfom said action do I
not see any file system associated with the disk which has been read many
times before? The light blinks and the disk spins inside the device but does
not get "read." The system utility error report tells me that the device has
a bad block of memory. Could that be something else such as a bad laser, or
something as simple as an incorrect file extension? I have recently ran
mcafee virus program which found about 300 problems. How to recover the good
and not the bad entries? System restore does not go back before the changes
took place.

Now you're asking a different question entirely, and one I can't help you
with.
