CD drawer opens and closes repeatedly

Yesterday, my cd rom drawer started opening and closing
repeatedly. I cannot insert a cd rom in the drive to
access anything because the drawer continues to open and
close. Has anyone seen this before? Could it be a virus?

I have seen this once, When I opened the cd-rom to put a
disk in and it just started to open and close all the
time, even when I rebooted the machine, it still
continued. however I have seen a web page in action that
can can open you cd-rom at random. try deleting all your
cookies and Temp Internet files, see if that makes a
diffrence.

Mine does that too!(Well, not exactly the same type of
problem, mine just won't stay closed) I put a cd in, and
it wont read any type of cd- it just pops right back out
again- this is getting really annoying, I don't know what
to do with it @_@

Some viruses do that, or you could be hacked.

Put up a firewall and scan for viruses and Trojans.

This advice is the best suggestion anyone could do. Virus, trojans, spyware
and hacked into computers cause more problems than anyone can imagine. Even
then when virus detectors find virus key files may have to be deleted and a
reinstall of infected program maybe the only solution. The best way to use
a firewall and virus checker is to have them detect attacks before they can
run on your computer. So many users use Peer to Peer files sharing and
there is usally a virus or trojan in every other file it seems.

It could be some thing to do with the Cd drive itself, our drive had the
same problem and had to be sent for repair. If the drive does the same thing
without a CD in it, check whether some thing is preventing the tray from
closing fully. Then of course there ia also a prank program which can do
that.

Good point! Have had 2 Cdroms fail and recently had a brand new one
defective. Also some older cdroms just do not work with the newer version
of software.
