Cd Data Recovery

I frequently back up My Documents onto cd-r's. None of the data on the cd is
critical but I just discovered that a back up cd that I created back in early
July is not "readable". I know I put data on the cd, but all I get is blank
when I insert it.
Checking the disk properties, it shows that the disk is entirely full. I
know that I did not use all of the disk for the data. Any ideas as to how I
can recover my data? None of it would merit a professional (and costly)
recovery.

Thanks

Provide some details about how you performed the backup. Did you use a backup program? Which one? Are you sure a CD-R was used and not a CD-RW?

A CD-R will show full when it (or the session) has been closed.
That is just the way it is.

Also, take nore that whilst CD-R is a relatively good medium to
archive data, it can and will fail. One of the most common causes
of failure is improper storage and handling, especially due to the
exposure of the media side to light. But it might be possible to
recover the data from this CD-R by using another CD-R drive.

Finally, a "backup" implies that there are a minimum of 2 copies
of the same material. Otherwise, there is no "backup copy" for it
is the only copy.
