CD/CD Rom problems

Can anyone help please? Just tried to save some photos to CD and get the
message CD Drive recording speed is slower than high speed disc in drive.
Admittidly have not saved anything to cd for a while but am using the same
CD's that I have always used 700mb 48x compatible.
I use Windows XP home edition version 2002 service pack 2.
Everything tells me that it is working ok, however having checked the
advanced system information - error log it appears that a number of times in
the past couple of months, the following errors have been identified:
The device,\Device\Harddisk0|D, has a bad block.
The driver detected a controller error on\Device\CdRom0

Would be grateful for any help as I am not at all technical and never
experienced this problem before.

Thanks

Check to make sure the drive is using one of the DMA modes and not PIO.
Here is a link to a website that explains all that:

Many thanks for that, have checked everything that you said and the drive is
using DMA.
It tells me that all drivers are working correctly as well.

Are you using XP's built-in cd burning or a third-party one? I'm not an
expert on cd burners because when I start getting errors with one I
just replace the drive. I recently bought some cd-rw drives for around
$23usd so they are not expensive. Until someone more knowledgeable
about the ins-and-outs of cd burning in XP comes along, here are links
that might help:
