Hello group,

I have a compaq presario 5000 with win xp home sp2.
I had to reformat and reinstall a couple of months ago, that was when I
added sp2. Before the reinstall I burned about 50 cd's and all was well.
Now when I try to burn I keep getting the message to put a cdr in the
drive.(I have tried different cd's to no avail) I hooked up an external cd
burner and I get the same message. They both continue to read.
My research points to what should be a registry entry in HKLM ,system,
current control set, class, (long number), and then there should be an
upper and lower filter. I have neither of these and I can't seem to find
where I can get these values from. Can someone please point me in the right
direction. Thank you

Weldon

What shows in Device Manager as the dvd/cd rom device? Have you tried
booting to Safe Mode and removing any/all devices listed under dvd/cd rom
devices, rebooting and reinstalling any necessary drivers/firmware.

You may also want to try a drive lens cleaner.
