CD burning issues

I am having trouble burning to my CD drives. If i use the windows XP burning
wizard i get as far as writing to the CD but get an error saying that there
is no CD in the drive. Changing the media makes no difference. I have 2
drives, cd-rw & dvd-rw, and changing the targeted drive makes no difference.
I have checked the imapi service and it is running in auto startup.
Everything was o.k a few days ago when i burnt to DVD without any problems ..

IMO you should bite the bullet, and buy Roxio's Easy CD Creator, latest
version (_not_ the free stuff you get with a CD burner.) Some people
also recommend Nero, but I have no experience with that one.

Also, once you get the thing working,
-- use the best media, not the cheapest. Unfortunately, price is not
always a good guide, but Verbatim and Fuji have good reps. I've had bad
results with housebrand (eg, Staples) or no-brand 50/100 CDs on a
spindle, and don't buy them any more.

-- burn at lower speeds than maximum; few CD burners work well at max
speed. Half speed is usually OK, sometimes you can go faster. This also
depends on the media you are using. For best results, burn at quarter
speed or even slower. Yeah, I know, it takes time, but what do you want?

SP2 wrecked my CD/DVD drive. You have to call for a HotFix.

Question: What brand and model do you have? Is this XP flaw limited to
certain brands or models? I may be upgrading to XP soon, and I want to
know about as many avoidable problems as possible.

Thanks for any info.

What are you using as software to burn DVD's. XP cannot natively burn
DVDs. See this link for a good tutorial on burning CD's in XP. If you
have 3rd party burning software installed that can conflict with the
inbuilt CD burning. You should disable the inbuilt and use the 3rd
party software.

It seems to be very limited: that post a couple of days back was the
first case I had heard of as resulting from SP2, and the fix file dates
from ten days after XP was released to manufacture; It will only show
if you use the inbuilt burning anyway. It can hardly have shown more
than one or two cases in the thousands of machines used by Beta Testers,
unless their drives were already not supported by the inbuilt XP
burning. My general reaction is that if that causes trouble (there are
certainly drives that it does not support) it is better to drop it and
use a reliable third party package anyway . I would go ahead, having
this article and fix in mind if you *do* run into the point.
