CD burner

I cannot get my CD burner to open. It used to open when the computer was
turned on but now it does nothing and won't open at all..it doesn't even seem
to run anymore. I tried to uninstall it and then reinstall it but that didn't
work either. What else can i do??
 
Open the case and make sure it is connected to the IDE and
power cables. It may have broken, use a paper clip to
manually release the latch by pushing in the small release
hole.

Buy a new, fast drive, maybe a nice DVD-DL RW, they are
about $50 now. They do CD and DVD and are very fast.

I can't buy a new one no matter how cheap. I just want to know why it would
open only when the computer is turned on. And now why it doesn't open at all.
 
Don't know without looking. The door could be jammed.
Check to be sure it is getting power, Open it with the
paper clip and look for something broken. Otherwise, the
firmware that controls the tray would seem to be damaged.
