CD Burner Stopped Burning

Using Home XP the CD Burner has stopped working with any of the programs
used to burn a CD. The programs start up as if they are functioning
correctly but they stop a few minutes into their process. XP and all of the
drivers are up to date. I really don't want to have to reformat. Can I
just reload XP again and get everything back as it should?
Thanks.

You haven't given us enough information to get a specific answer. What
burning programs did you try? Were there any error messages and if so,
what were they? What brand/model is your burner? What changed between
the time things worked and the time they didn't? Are there any error
messages that might give a clue in Event Viewer (find Event Viewer in
the Administrative Tools applet in Control Panel)? Have you opened the
computer to see if all cables are connected properly? Try another
burner and see if that works - perhaps the original one is old and has
just died. A hardware problem will not be solved by reinstalling
Windows.

Hi,
see:-
How to troubleshoot issues that occur when you write data to a CD-R or
CD-RW Optical Disc in Windows XP

Also disable antivirus software before burning.
Try with third party CD Burning software like NERO.

Try Logging Off and relogging back in.
If that don't work, try rebooting.
If that don't work, then you have some other issue. Go into the
Device Manager, highlight the CD Burner drive in question. Tap
on the Delete key and reboot. Upon reboot you should see a
found new hardware message and it should reload the drivers.

If that doesn't fix it, let us know and provide us with some more
information and with details about what you've tried to do.
