--Dear members,

A strange thing is happening to my CD Burner, I placed a brand new CD in it
and it started opening and closing continuously, and when I went to my
computer and clicked on the Burner, the message there was: please place a CD,
although there is a CD in the drive, and when I took the CD out it just
stopped and closed, my second enquiry is, if I want to replace the burner
should I buy a DVD burner as someone told me that with it I can burn both DVD
and CDR, is this true.

Normally this means that the drive has died although I'll give you some
troubleshooting links. Yes, if you do replace the drive I would
definitely replace it with a DVD burner. A DVD burner can read and
write CD's and DVD's.

1. You could have a faulty CD. Check with a known good CD
2. Are you sure it is a CD and not a DVD
3. If the unit is faulty a combination drive that will run and burn CDs and
DVDs is the best option. Most modern drives are combination/dual drives
nowadays.
