cd burner- help me!

I am trying to burn a data CD, & I keep getting a message
that says "there are no supported cd-recorders
available." I've used my CD burner hundreds of times,
but for some reason it won't work this time. I have a
project due in a few hours, can anyone help me?
 
I'm having a similar problem (it says there is no media
in the drive)on both my laptop and my desktop burners --
ever since I installed the most recent Microsoft security
release (KB824146). Maybe there's a connection!
