v1.24.180
- Added detection for Internet Cache cleaning
****** problem when Firefox/Mozilla is open.

In 1.23, FF cache is cleaned with FF opened, no problems.

In 1.24, it does not clean FF cache if FF is open, and seems to skip FF
cache even after FF is then closed.

Is this fixed in 1.25??

Because I keep the cache size (Tools>Options>Privacy>Cache) set to 0,
Ccleaner never cleans the cache due to the fact that there isn't any. If
I change the savable cache size, however, 1.25 does indeed recognize the
existence of a cache, and at least claims to cleans it. Do you, perhaps,
have your cache size set to 0?

Thanks. I run FF 1.0.3, just set cache to 0 now, will see. IIRC, never
saw that tip even in old Netscape days.

And will now give CC 1.25 a try.

Any advantage to doing that other than to bypass the need for cleaning?
Just curious...

Not that I'm aware of. In fact, it *may* slow down the loading of
webpages that you visit multiple times in between cleanings of the cache.

Yep. That's how I understood it. But I've heard of others using a zero
cache so I was wondering if I was missing something. Sometimes contrarian
thinkers are actually onto something. hehe

I leave the cache set to whatever the default is, but I have a
shortcut on the desktop to a batch file that deletes the entire
cache folder and various *.txt files (cookies, history) which I
hit when I've closed the browser. (The folder and other files, of
course, are re-created when the browser is next launched.)

Works for me.

Is this a batch file you've created yourself, or one from somewhere like
Langa.com?

There's probably some superfluous commands in there, but it works
for me.

You delete your history? Does that mean that links to sites you've
visited don't change color? Or just that you can't look up a list of
where you've been?

Created it myself. It's simple enough, just this:

--------------------
cd C:\
cd PROGRA~1\k-MELEON\PROFILES\DEFAULT\[default folder]\
deltree /y Cache
deltree /y Cache.Trash
deltree /y history.dat
deltree /y cookies.txt
cd C:\
cd WINDOWS\APPLIC~1\MOZILLA\FIREFOX\PROFILES\[default folder]\
deltree /y Cache
deltree /y Cache.Trash
deltree /y history.dat
deltree /y formhistory.dat
cd C:\
cd PROGRA~1
cd POCOMA~1
cd POCOMAIL.BAK
deltree /y ATTACH
cd
@echo off
cls

--------------------

(As you can see, it cleans out both Firefox and K-Meleon browsers.
The Pocomail command blasts an unnecessary backing-up of the mail
attachment directory which the program seems to insist upon backing
it up even though I instructed it not to....)

I guess it depends on how you browse from session to session. Both
functions that you mention -- the site list and highlighting of
visited links -- work during each browsing session; I've never had
occasion to use either feature across different sessions, so I
don't miss it as a feature.

(It's not an important clear-out -- I don't really care if the
computer has a record of where I've been -- but since I invariably
cleared the history when I cleaned up using the program interface,
I tossed it in the batch file as a bit of house-keeping.)

Interesting thread. I also use Thunderbird, can't see a way to clear TB
debris (N/A?) in CCleaner. I do otherwise clean the Trash folder in TB.

After setting to 0 cache, it worked at first, but later when I opened
FF, I couldn't. The desktop shortcut, and even clicking on the
executable itself, no luck.

I went back to the default max cache size 1000 kb IIRC. Seems fine now.
Amd CCleamer 1.25 fixes the 1.24 problem, so it cleans FF cache fine.

Everybody's computer is different.

BTW, a FF fix I just got from FF forum, may be of interest here-
In the past month, when I go to the same websites I always go to, Images
disabled, Javascript disabled, Popups disabled, basically viewing text,
I get either of 2 messages:
* To display all the media on this page, you need plugins, click here.
* You have disabled popups, for more options, click here.
How can I permanently disable these messages so they never appear?

To disable missing plugin prompts.
Type about:config into the location bar and press enter, type popup into
the filter, find this line: privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage
right click and select toggle (to false), close and reopen Firefox.

Works fine.

When you opened FF, you couldn't? And if you were no longer able to open
your FF after setting the max cache to 0, how were you able to change
the max cache size back to the default?

Sorry, left out- I rebooted, then reset cache.

Then: If, after rebooting, you were able to open your Firefox and
(presumably) use it as usual, could you have not safely left the max
cache set to 0?

0 cache may be perfectly OK, because even with cache set back to 1000 kb
yesterday, after awhile FF would not run and I had to reboot. There is a
long FF forum page on FF hang issues I have to go through. Fun and games.

Good luck with it.
