CCC NOT Forced on X800 Users!

I did a clean install from the AIW X800 CD and, of course,
CCC was loaded by default. When I checked my installed
programs to find it and delete it, I noticed that the old ATI
Control Panel was also installed. Remember this was a totally
clean install so Control Panel wasn't hanging around from an
older install. I uninstalled CCC and, lo and behold (or ho
and belold) after the obligatory reboot, there was the Control
Panel icon in the System Tray and there was no sign of CCC!

Yay!

Well, the drivers on the install CD are expected to be old. It's only on the
latest drivers that ATi began excluding the Control Panel. You can still get
Catalyst 6.3 with the Control Panel if you download it from the FireMV
section on ATi's web site. However, the Control Panel hasn't been updated in
a while, so features like adaptive AA and geometry instancing aren't
present.

It looks like you can install just the driver without CCC from the Radeon
section in the slow connection section where it breaks the download into
four parts. Can't you just get the driver and use ATI Tray Tools and skip
ATI's CP and CCC altogether?
