Cause of db crash

We have an Access 2k3 db running on and Windows 2000 server. One day it
became unopenable.

I've been asked by my boss to explain why it is no longer openable, or
rather, why it crashed or became corrupted.

I'm not a db expert by any means. Where can I look for clues to what
happened? Alternatively, what is a common, probable cause of Access 2k3
db corruption?

Thanks for any ideas.

Thanks!

Is there a rule of thumb for how fragmented an Access 2k3 db can become
before it becomes corrupted or won't otherwise open?

(Utilities for Windows can provide the percentage of hard disk
fragmentation, so I thought there might be a way to determine the
percentage of an Access db's fragmentation, to make sure it's less than
30%, or whatever the best practice recommendation is.)

MDB is too unstable for real-world use for anything

use SQL Sever, or MSDE.

6 months from now; you'll laugh at the idea of an MDB
