Categories - Removing Values

I'm using Outlook 2003. I have a number of contacts in which I want
to remove all the categories for a custome field. A group update only
adds categories - doesn't seem to remove them. Is there a way to
remove all categories for multiple contacts without doing each one
individually?

Select the contacts, right-click, choose Categories and remove the category
in that dialog.
