categories and distribution list

Is it possible to create a distribution list based on a
group of contacts defined by category?

No, but you can sort by Category and then select the whole category and
choose Actions-> New Message t Contact

Ok, I sort my contact list by category. Then choose
action - how do I create the distribution list? After I
have sorted my contact list and go to action, I only have
a couple of options available - New message to contact is
not one of them.

It should be there. See at the bottom of the Actions list whether you can
extend the menu. Otherwise locate outcmd.dat and rename it to .old to reset
your Toolbar.
