Can someone tell me how to get video off dvds I have recorded so I can edit
them on movie maker or power producer? I would like to also know how to back
up my vacation pics to a dvd as well.

Thanks.

I've captured short clips from movies on DVD using interVideo WinDVD and a
program called FRAPS (www.fraps.com). The program is shareware, and the demo
copy will allow you to capture clips up to 30 seconds long. The program
costs $39. The program is intended to capture video from inside games like
SecondLife/WorldOfWarcraft etc.. I'm pretty sure you can use WinDVD to play
your recorded DVDs, but others who are more familiar with WinDVD may want to
comment on this.. If you intend to do fairly long clips, you'll need LARGE
quantities of disk space.. for example: one of the clips I captured using
this mechanism, was 720X480 30fps, 1:30 long, and it was just a bit over 1Gb
in size.. Once you've done your editing in MovieMaker, you would then allow
MovieMaker to make a wmv or avi, which would then be significantly smaller,
depending on the codec you use.

Hope this helps,
