Capture audio software?

Does XP have the software to capture audio thru the sound card onto my hard
drive from a tape deck?
I'd like to create a .wav file from a tape cassette.

Sound recorder can be used for relatively short recordings but its a
pretty simple program. You can get a feel for whats available by
searching www.google.com for recording software.
