Caption reference in document

I have a long document with approx 50 figures in it with captions. I
have to make references to the figures in the document e.g. "Figure 45
below shows........however please see figure 18 for......".

My problem is that if I need to insert extra figures and change the
caption numbering, I will have to go back through the document and
manually update the figure reference myself.

Is there a way to link the reference in the document paragraph to the
figure so that it updates when the caption is updated?

Thanks.
