Caps lock utility - tO pREVENT tHIS !

Franklin

I am trying to find a caps lock utility which regognises when the
caps lock is enabled and the user is entering 'mixed case' text.

I don't want to disable or remap the caps lock key. I just want to
prevent starting a word with a lower case letter and completing that
word in upper case lIKE tHIS.

Does anyone know of such a utility?

TinySpell can do it but I findit hard to use because it beeps on too
many spelling 'errors' like URLs, filenames, personal abbreviations,
etc. http://www.megspace.com/computers/tinyspell/

A simple solution is to go to Control Panel/Accessibility Options and
on the Keyboard tab, tick the "Toggle Keys" box.

Then you will get a beep every time you inadvertently hit the Caps
Lock, Num Lock or Scroll Lock keys.

No extra software required.

..... snip .....

I use a program called "First Cap". Go to:-

http://www.falsinsoft.altervista.org/

and click on "Products" tab for description.

Then click on "Download" tab for download sites.

Their description is:-

Do you have a problem with Caps Lock? Do you often press Caps Lock
without noticing it and wRITE sOMETHING lIKE tHIS?? FirstCap is the
solution of your problem. It has an intelligent method to advise you
when Caps Lock or Num Lock are active and can manage a lot of
different situations for helping the user to write better with fewer
errors

FirstCap is a small and very handy program that reliably warns
keyboard users if they accidentally activate the Caps Lock or Num Lock
key. In such a case, the user is alerted by a sound signal. The
program contains a sophisticated key pression intercept engine and is
able to help users with many useful features. It can disable Caps
Lock/Num Lock or Insert keyboard functions, turn off Caps Lock status
as a consequence of various keystroke combinations and customize the
status of the Caps Lock and Num Lock in connection with specific
programs. FirstCap was developed mainly for Word Processing and
similar programs. If you don't see the utility of this program
probably don't need it. :)

Main features:

Very low consumption of system resources
Intuitive and pleasant configuration interface
Customizable PC Speaker alert sounds
Enable/Disable Caps Lock, Num Lock and Insert key function
Correct Caps Lock LED to agree with internal status resulting from
certain keystroke combinations

Try Caps Unlock a 11KB freeby. No problems with XP Home SP2. Works
great!

Have not tried any of the above though. CapsUnlock seems nice, if you
ever need to use the Capslock key, since the program will sit in the
tray to allow you to disable/enable it on demand.

But if you don't want more apps added to "bloat" your tray ;) or
running a TSR, KeyTweak is something to consider (for Win2k/XP only).
No TSR/Tray-app running as it simply tweaks the keyboard assignments
in the registry. Using KeyTweak I have reassigned my capslock key to
the left shift key. Simple and effective, although I am sure the
"no-install" folks here will find something to object to ;)

Ouch, did not read the OP's request before posting, about not wanting
a remapper.

Try setting Toggle Keys on - it's in Control Panel, Accessibility
Options. Gives an audible warning when you hit the Caps Lock, Num
Lock or Scroll Lock key. Works in all Windows from 98 onwards,
works in all application software and does not require additional
software installation - zero bloat!

Bloatware. Download is 33 times
the size of the CapsUnlock download.

Some people like big ones though.

Sorry Frank - when I sent the following yesterday it seems to have
gone to your email instead of the newsgroup :-(

BUT - CapsUnlock does NOT do what I want or what I thought the O.P.
wants - i.e. warn you if you have reactivated the caps lock key
because you want all caps for a while and then forget it is active and
end up with tEXT LIKE THIS.

So, so called bloatwear or not, I will still use "First Cap" as it
does what I want and causes no problems, until I find a better one
that does the same thing, and that is NOT CapsUnlock, as far as I can
see. Or have I missed something in it?

For godness sake, don't load any more software if the OS (Windows in this
case) already has the feature you need. I've used the built-in Accessibility
feature for a while now, and the beeps save me every time!

The keyboard driver usually has a built-in utility to de-activate or
re-assign keys.
