I get the following error when I try to copy files to
disk (it has worked before on this computer):

There is no disk in the drive
Please insert a writable CD into drive D:\

I tried several different CDs, I also tried reading one
and had no problems with that.

Double check the Properties of the drive to see if it is enabled for
burning.

If you are trying to save or drag and drop directly to CD, this is known as
packet writing and XP does not support that function natively. This
requires third party software such as the Direct CD component of Easy CD
Creator, www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com.

Check the web sites for version compatibility with XP as well as compatible
CD-Writers.

A stab in the dark is that you aren't using the correct blank CDs..
like CD-R, or CD-RW, or CD+R...

Another stab in the dark is that you have two drives on your computer
and are using the read only CD? :-) I said a stab in the dark...

And another stab in the dark - are you using completely blank CDs?
