I would appreciate some input on how to interpret the message I just
started getting when I try to Back Up files to CD-R disk.
Is this probably a hardware problem and if so, how would I diagnose it?

I tried 2 new disks and I get the same error message.

When I click on [File] and select "Write these files to CD" I
immediately get the message, "Cannot Complete ...There was an error
in the writing process. The disk you have attempted to write may no
longer be usable."

Very good so far.

I did the download thing and have it up, but I'm not sure how to pick up
the compressed file I have in Desktop and burn it.

The menu items in the Right Hand window don't include all the icons I
have in Desktop and don't include the file I want to burn.

First you must click to make a data cd if you've clicked to make a music cd
it will only look for music files. Now if you've clicked a data cd then in
the upper left side you will see desktop. Click on desktop and then in the
right screen you will see all the files on your desktop. If for some strange
reason you can't, then make the CD Burner XP Pro window smaller and just drag
and drop the file from your desktop to the burning program in the open
section undernieth where it says add and remove. Good Luck.

Joe;

Perhaps I could make it clearer if I indicated that all I want to do is
a Routine Backup of Settings and Documents. This compressed
file exists in Files ready to be written to the CD (My Computer) but I
don't understand how to designate this in the CDBurnerXP Pro Program.

Joe;

At the risk of becoming tedious(er), for some reason I can't locate the
compressed (zipped) file that was created when I ran the Windows Backup
that I couldn't burn for some reason. When I click on the icon and try
to select Target, I get the Shortcut doesn't work prohibit.

So, my question is now 2-fold: (1.) How do I create a compressed file
containing Settings & Docs that I can find, (2.) I can then burn to CD
with the new Burner Program.

Joe;

Thanks a bunch.... It took me a while to figure it all out, but I got
the job done.

I still had to use the W-XP Wizard to create a new Documents and
Settings file and compress it, but the file was
picked up by CDBurner XP Pro and completed successfully.

Happy trails,
