Can't work out how to install new SideBar gadgets

Using Vista Ultimate RTM, I can't seem to work out how to install additional
sidebar gadgets.

If I click on the "+" button the currently installed gadgets are displayed.
I then click the "Get more gadgets online" link and my web browser opens up
listing lots more gadgets.

But when I try to install these, nothing happens. They don't appear in the
sidebar, nor in the additional gadget list.

I've tried opening them in both IE and Firefox, and also downloading the
..gadget file to disk and double-clicking it, but still no gadget appears.

Am I missing something obvious, and if so what is it? :)

Thanks,

Ok, lets see. After you downloaded the .gadget file, it does have the gadget
icon on it, right? And it did prompt about it being installed, correct?

Well, it should be listed in the list you already looked at when you clicked
on the '+" on the sidebar. Please note that there may be multiple pages of
gadgets, make sure it isn't being listed on page 2.

This is just a quick response, of course. It sounds like you are doing
everything right, but the gadget may be hidden on the second page.

It does indeed have the gadget icon. When I double-click I get a security
warning telling me that the publisher couldn't be verified, so I click
Install. The warning window disappears, but nothing else happens. I've
checked in the "Open With" window and "Windows Sidebar" is selected as the
program to open this type of file.

There's definitely only one page of gadgets displayed.

One other thing I've noticed is that if I copy the .gadget file to my
AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar\Gadgets directory, rename it as a
..zip file and unzip it to a "MyGadget.gadget" directory, the gadget does
then appear in the "Add Gadgets" window. But I'm sure I shouldn't need to do
that...

Any ideas?

Many thanks,
