can't view web component in Frontpage web site

I created a web site using FrontPage 2002. In one of the pages I incorporated
an Excel spreadsheet as a web component. When i bring the page up in
Internet explorer it loads O.K. but doesn't display the spreadsheet part.

Any solution?

Does the host have the Office Server extensions installed?

You need Excel or the Excel reader to view excel files (even with that plug-in,
it relies on Excel itself).

The web host says they have FrontPage extensions enabled. But they also said
the extensions are a function of the the viewer not the server, whatever that
means.

The web hosting support people said that it looks O.K. from their end that it
is a browser problem and that it needs to be IE 6 with security set to low.
I have tried viewing on several computers with IE 5.0, 5.5 and 6 with
different service packs. I have tried viewing on WIN98SE, WINME and WIN2K and
WINXP. So far one computer running WIN2K and IE 6 showed the spreadsheet
correctly. WINXP and IE6 didn't.
When trying with Netscape it gives the error message that you only need IE
4.01 or higher.

Andrew, are you saying that the user has to own a copy of Excel to view the
spreadsheet component? I thought the whole point of the web component was to
have a run-type version of Excel inbedded in the component so Excel wasn't
necessary. Otherwise, what is the point of the component?
And no where in the 6-7 FrontPage manuals I have consulted is that point
made. Not saying your wrong, just seems it would be an important point to
make in the documentation.

Thanks for your help

Ron
