Can't view e-mails in html

Magnus Persson

With Outlook 2003 I cannot view e-mails sent to me in html format. The
newsletter "Inside Microsoft Office" is sent in html but I cannot view that.
Other newsletters I receive can be configured to be sent in "plain text"
only but why can't I view html e-mails in Outlook?

I guess this is a security setting in Outlook but I cannot find it. With
Outlook Express I can view html e-mails without any problem.

Please help.

Have you inadvertently enabled the "Read all mesages as Plain text" option?

Where do I find that option in Outlook 2003?

Anyway, I forgot to mention that it is only external e-mails that is not
viewable in html. If we send e-mails internally (the intranet of our
company) then html e-mails work as expected.

I don't think it has anything to do with our Exchange server either since
Outlook Express will show external html e-mails correctly. It's just Outlook
that do not show external html e-mails correctly.

We have workstations with Outlook SR-1, XP and 2003 all with the same
problem.

It should be on one of the Tools>Options tabs. Since I have the "Attachment
Options" plug-in from http://www.slovaktech.com/, I have a "Read all mail as
Plain text" checkbox on the "Attachment Security & Options" tab that add-in,
well, adds in.

There is one option (Options->Preferences->E-mail Options) called "Read all
standard mail in plain text" and a sub option to this called "Read all
digitally signed mail in plain text". Non of those checkboxes are checked
though so it has to be something else.

While I'm not sanguine about this working, you can always check the
registry. Search for "ReadAsPlain" to see if such a key exists.

I havn't added that key. And besides...that key was a fix for Office XP not
Office 2003.

Well...I just give up on this html issue. According to Microsoft's online
training about e-mail formats you can control which format you send in and
also which format you receive in. Though I cannot get it to work. HTML
e-mails only seems to work with e-mails from within (i.e. from accounts on
our Exchange Server) but not to and from external contacts.

Thanks for your time anyway.
