can't use "ask for Remote Assistance"

N

Nikko

When I go to Actions>Ask For Remote Assistance, and pick a buddy to ask, I
get the following message:

Your invitation was not sent because you need the latest version of Windows
Messenger to use the Remote Assistance feature. Please go to the Windows
Messenger update site to install the latest version

I'm using version 6.1 When I go to the update site, it tries to get me to
install version 4.7 What gives? I want to be able to use the Remote
Assistance feature through Messenger, but I shouldn't have to roll back my
version to do so, should I?

Greetings Nikko,

Remote Assistance is a component of Windows, and as such, requires Windows Messenger
installed to operate.

You are using *MSN Messenger* 6.1, not *Windows Messenger*, and as such, without Windows
Messenger also installed (you don't have to use it however or even have it running), you will
not be able to use Remote Assistance.

You'll simply need to install the latest Windows Messenger available on the Windows Messenger
website:

Nikko, 6.1 is MSN Messenger the 4.7 the update site is trying to install is
Windows Messenger, they are two different things. I believe the latest
version of Windows Messenger is 5.0. Upgrading your Windows Messenger will
not wipe out MSN Messenger 6.1. You may need to adjust the settings of both
to make sure the right one starts up on well start up.

Hope that helps.
