Can't upgrade from Windows 98

I am trying to upgrade a compaq pc. I am upgrading with
XP home editon, the CD will start the installation
process, but when I go to actually upgrade, It keeps
telling me to put a full version of windows xp disk into
the CD rom. What's up with that? Please e-mail me with
any ideas. Thanks
