Can't update

I've gone weell past the limit with installs on this pre SP1 Windows Home Ed.

Or maybe it's a faulty registry but something won't install updates for me
anymore.

Do I try uninstalling all the updates I do have or just fiddle with the
registry?

I get this no matter what I browse with:
"Why didn’t my machine complete validation?
You have encountered an unknown error. Please contact your local product
support team for further assistance with this issue."

My local support team is the shop I bought the disk from years ago I suppose?

I obviously have a bug or something as Firefox just crashed on posting the
above. The best thing for me to do is update all my scanners and reboot in
safe mode for a complete scan.
