Can't update Windows -- Trust Certificates are all messed up!

Whenever I try to update Windows, it says something about
the Trust Certificates being messed up. Well, I went into
the settings and there are none there! I think my brother
may have deleted them, not knowing it would do this!
Please help with assisting to get them back.

This may or may not work.

Close all browsers. Search for wintrust.dll
renname wintrust.dll wintrust.dl$
Install the updates. (Sometime wintrust.dll will be restored after
updating-if not rename it back after installing updates)

You might have to rename it in safe mode.
