Can't Unlink Contact and Apparent Corrupt Account

D

Donald Mills

Using Vista Ultimate 86x, Office Pro 2007. Have 3327MB memory, AMD 64 +3700
CPU, and MSI 939 Socket MoBo. To the best of my knowledge I have all of the
driver updates available.

For some reason, I have AN Account that has apparently corrupted. Today I
have discovered that every time I click THAT Account to open it, I get the
"Outlook and stopped working..." message, closing, sending info to MS,
reopening. No other Accounts are doing this that I can find, so must be THAT
particular Account. I have created new, slightly differently named Account
and Business Conctact. The problem I am having is that, even though I
created the new items, the OLD Account will not let go. I want to Auto-link,
but the OLD Account just will not let go. Everytime I try to do anything
with THAT Account, Outlook/BCM dumps as described above.

I have performed Microsoft Office Diagnostics (from Start Menu), Repairs
(from ...\Control Panel\Programs and Features - Change - Repair), and even
PSTSCAN.EXE. All said or acted as though they were working, changing,
repairing. Still the above persists. I have even undone the Address Book
referencing and redone that with the thought maybe something silly there.

So my questions are these...
1. How do I delete the Account with actually selecting it?
2. Can I somehow at least un-associate the Account without having to open
it?

I would REALLY appreciate any help, advice, direction, etc. Thanks in
advance!

Donald:

I haven't tried this but it "should" work OK...

Do an Export of your BCM database into .BCM format. That is really an XML
file that you can open with Notepad or other editor. Be careful with Word
that you don't introduce all the formatting crapola... XML is all text,
similar to HTML coding for websites.

Find the offending account in the XML by doing a Find. You seem to be a
capable PC user and should be able to figure out the <> </ > sections that
define that account record. Delete that part of the file.

Create a new BCM database and then import that .BCM file back into it.

Please let us know if that corrects the problem...

Thanks,
Lon

Can you run SQL commands against the database, or have someone around
that can do that?

As suggested, I saved the exported .bcm file to the desktop, then opened the
file in Notepad. Once open, did an edit/find for the record. Highlighted the
'offending' record and deleted it, then savaed .bcm file. As suggested,
created new database and loaded/imported the new revised .bcm file. It took
a while, but loaded. That 'offending' record is gone and the program seems
to run faster as a side benefit.

Thanks for your help!!!
