Can't type any character in the text boxes

When I start IE, I can't input anything into the
textboxes...only a pulldown menu of what I have previously
entered has been shown. What is the problem?
 
Thanks. However, the problem still can't be solved. What should I do?

I have once tried to uninstall IE and wants to reinstall it again but
fail. Now the version of IE has displayed 'An Error has occured in this
dialog. Error : 96 - Unspecified error'. What can I do now?
