can't turn off cleartype

I cannot turn off clear type, although inside
Ctrl Pannel> Display> Apearance> Effects I have unchecked

"Use the following methods to smooth the edges of screen fonts"

So this should not be a problem but it is as you can see in th
screenshot attached. I recently got a new graphics card, a 9200 Radeo
but am unsure if the problem existed before or after since I als
re-installed XP two days prior.

Can someone please help me turn cleartype off

Gotta be a bit careful with Kelly's site. Clicking on links often will run
VB scripts (.vbs) or execute something, like a .reg file to update your
registry. Instead you might want to right-click on the links, download the
file, open it, and check what it does.

From Kelly's .reg file to disable ClearType, it modifies the following data
values:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
FontSmoothing = 2
FontSmoothingType = 1

That's what I have now in my registry. However, I did NOT disable the the
"Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts". Instead I have
this option enabled but I selected "Standard" from the dropdown listbox.
ClearType is only for use on LCD monitors, not if you are using a CRT
monitor. Did you click on Kelly's *disable* link (to run her
cleartypeoff.reg file), or maybe you click on the leftmost one that enables
ClearType (and why your monitor looks worse now).

Using Kelly's link to her cleartypeoff.reg file will still turn ON font
smoothing. But instead of using ClearType, it will now use the Standard
method of smoothing display fonts. If you don't want any smoothing at all,
then do as you did before and disable the "... smooth edges of screen fonts"
option. That will use the following registry values (once you click OK to
exit that dialog and then click Apply in the Display Properties dialog):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
FontSmoothing = 0
FontSmoothingType = 0

That's the best you can do with these settings to remove *any* font
smoothing. If it is still fuzzy then it sounds like a hardware problem,
especially since you just replaced the video card.

Checked if your monitor's focus control needs adjustment?

Checked if the brightness is set too high on your monitor? If set too
bright, the pixels will bloom and the monitor could look like it is out of
focus.

You didn't happen to add an extender cable onto the video cable, did you?

In Display Properties -> Settings, are you set to 256 color depth or higher?

Going under the Advanced button and looking under the Monitor tab, have you
tested different refresh rates? Could be you are way too high.

In System Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Options -> Visual Effects,
is the "Smooth edges of screen fonts" also disabled there? I would expect
it to match with the "... smooth edges of screen fonts" option you
configured earlier. Maybe you perceived fuzziness is the shadow behind the
mouse cursor, menues, etc, so see if disabling shadows makes the screen
clearer. You could also try switching to the "Adjust for best performance"
to disable all of the visual settings.

Your method of

System> Advanced> Preformance> Adjust for best preformance

worked. The problem is gone. I did notice it was a reg file bu
trusted the contents, thankfully my antivirus blocks executtion of vb
scripts.

I thank you for you help in solveing this matter, Indeed I have a CR
display and thats why I was unhappy with font smoothing.

Thanks to all
