Can't Sync Outlook 2007 with PDA Using Vista...

I have a new Dell Laptop running Vista with Office 2007 loaded and working
perfectly. Except, when I attempt to sync with my Axim X3, the connection
with the PDA works fine, but I cannot select Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, etc
from the "Set Up Your Device" dialog as they are grayed-out. When I hover
the mouse over these grayed-out options, the tooltip says "Outlook has not
been installed". Outlook 2007 IS installed and working perfectly!

I have tried every trick I could find on these boards as well as others,
including removing/reintalling Windows Mobile Device Center and the related
update, deleting the partnership and other tricks. Any new ideas on this
front? Not being able to sync Outlook is a major problem for me and I've
never had an issue before.

correctly? Like for instance right click on a file-> Send To-> Mail
Recipient?

If so I would start with troubleshooting at the WMDC newsgroup which is
supported in;

"The Add-in "FaxExtension" (C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxsext32.dll) cannot be
loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the Add-in

Add-in."

This means that Outlook is probably not registered in the registry, right?
That would explain why the Windows Mobile Device Center can't "find" it
either - is this correct?

Can I edit the registry? Do I need to re-install Outlook? The Outlook 2007
on this machine was installed by me over the Outlook 2003 that came with this
laptop a few months ago. If I need to re-install, is there anything I need
to know to do it differently this time?

I researched the error message and got a great reference on this page:

Apparently there are two places the "extend.dat" file could be and you
should delete them. A registry key fix is also offered. It seems to have
fixed the issue of calling Outlook for at least one user!

I am hoping this works for me, as I'll assume that being able to call
Outlook successfully will make the options in Windows Mobile Device Center
accessible (WMDC will see Outlook as installed). I hope my logic is correct.

My registry is OK, but I can't access my "Local Settings" folder. Vista has
it locked down.

I got access to all my folders, deleted the extend.dat files, modified the
registry to not have a reference to the faxextend and now doing a "Send To"
calling Outlook works perfectly!

But I still don't have access to those damn checkboxes in WMDC! It insists
that Outlook is not installed.

Any other ideas?

I cannot fine my .pst listed in the Data File Management dialog. Could this
be the issue? How do I get my data file (it must be somewhere on this
machine) to be listed?

Roady,
I will definately do this. But for now here's what I learned:
- There was no entry for the data file I was using in Outlook.
- Creating a new data file with the thought of moving my data over to it
created some change in the registry (I guess) and now I could see my original
data file (the one I've been using for months). It just appeared once a new
..pst was created.
- I thought: "if this .pst just became visable to some Outlook functions
such as "Data File Management", maybe it has become visible to other
applications, so I tried to sync - just for kicks.
- It worked!
- Now I still have my original .pst, but it's visible in various lists, such
as the Data File Management list.
- My new, empty .pst that surfaced my orginal .pst is just hanging out in
the Nav bar in Outlook.
- I will eventually migrate my data over to the new .pst, as I can't help
but think that the new .pst has been created "correctly" and therefore will
be more stable.

I hope this helps someone else with this problem!
Roady, I will definately tackle the chore of moving my data over to the new
..pst in time.

You're welcome!

If everything works correctly now you can detach your empty pst-file through
File-> Data File Management...
If you don't trust your original pst-file anymore you can indeed move it to
the newly created pst-file. After youhave done this you can set it as the
default delivery location File-> Data File Management

I will definately do this. But for now here's what I learned:
- There was no entry for the data file I was using in Outlook.
- Creating a new data file with the thought of moving my data over to it
created some change in the registry (I guess) and now I could see my
original
data file (the one I've been using for months). It just appeared once a
new
.pst was created.
- I thought: "if this .pst just became visable to some Outlook functions
such as "Data File Management", maybe it has become visible to other
applications, so I tried to sync - just for kicks.
- It worked!
- Now I still have my original .pst, but it's visible in various lists,
such
as the Data File Management list.
- My new, empty .pst that surfaced my orginal .pst is just hanging out in
the Nav bar in Outlook.
- I will eventually migrate my data over to the new .pst, as I can't help
but think that the new .pst has been created "correctly" and therefore
will
be more stable.

I hope this helps someone else with this problem!
Roady, I will definately tackle the chore of moving my data over to the

Sounds like you have a corrupted mail profile. See if recreating it
solves
you issues;

More research has occured:

I cannot fine my .pst listed in the Data File Management dialog. Could
this
be the issue? How do I get my data file (it must be somewhere on this
machine) to be listed?

I got access to all my folders, deleted the extend.dat files, modified
the
registry to not have a reference to the faxextend and now doing a
"Send
To"
calling Outlook works perfectly!

But I still don't have access to those damn checkboxes in WMDC! It
insists
that Outlook is not installed.

Any other ideas?

it locked down.

troubleshooting
WMDC.

I researched the error message and got a great reference on this

Apparently there are two places the "extend.dat" file could be
and
you
should delete them. A registry key fix is also offered. It
seems
to have
fixed the issue of calling Outlook for at least one user!

I am hoping this works for me, as I'll assume that being able to
call
Outlook successfully will make the options in Windows Mobile
Device
Center
accessible (WMDC will see Outlook as installed). I hope my
logic
is
correct.
Any additional info would be appreciated!

I tried to do a "Send To" and it failed, reporting:

"The Add-in "FaxExtension" (C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxsext32.dll)
cannot be
loaded and has been disabled by Outlook. Please contact the
Add-in
manufacturer for an update. If no update is available, please
uninstall
the
Add-in."

This means that Outlook is probably not registered in the
registry,
right?
That would explain why the Windows Mobile Device Center can't
"find" it
either - is this correct?

Can I edit the registry? Do I need to re-install Outlook? The
Outlook
2007
on this machine was installed by me over the Outlook 2003 that
came with
this
laptop a few months ago. If I need to re-install, is there
anything I
need
to know to do it differently this time?

Mail
Recipient?

If so I would start with troubleshooting at the WMDC
newsgroup
which is

I have a new Dell Laptop running Vista with Office 2007
loaded

perfectly. Except, when I attempt to sync with my Axim X3,
the
connection
with the PDA works fine, but I cannot select Contacts,
Calendar,
Tasks,
etc
from the "Set Up Your Device" dialog as they are
grayed-out.
When I
hover
the mouse over these grayed-out options, the tooltip says
"Outlook
has not
been installed". Outlook 2007 IS installed and working
perfectly!

Not sure if your having the same problem getting OL07 sync'd or not
but I've had the same problem. On initial change to vista my Ipaq
PPC2003 would sync with the installed new mobile device centre whilst
running OL03/xp no problem, but since running up to office 07
enterprise I find that I can no longer sync after installing MDC it
defaults to windows mail and calendar and even killed my logitech
keyboard button to call up outlook !!!! The last straw was if you
read the small print on the MDC update is says mail, contacts etc sync
are not supported, unless you use additional software. Whats the
point of MDC then ??

I've waisted a whole weekend on this issuse and I can't get any more
pins into my Bill Gates effigy. Nice one microshaft, £700 office pack
kills MDC.
