Can't sync BCM on Pocket PC

H

handsup

I have installed the add-in for Outlook 2003 for Business Contacts on
Pocket Pc, and although I have the little BCM icon on my PDA, and
within active sync on my PC it recognises that it is something it can
and should be sync'ing, when I use Active Sync, it tells me "attention
required"...but I don't know what attention to give it! Any ideas?

If you are attempting to synch BCM data with a Windows Mobile 5.0 device,
guess what? It is still NOT supported! In order to currently be able to
synch BCM with Windows Mobile 5.0 you must use a 3rd party application made
by Chapura. Go to: www.chapura.com and click on Pocket Mirror Professional
for Windows Mobile.

Thanks for this - I don't know what version of Windows Mobile I have
(how do I find out?) but I was able to have my BCM contacts on my PDA
for awhile, then my PDA did a hard reset of itself, and now I can't get
them back...
Would you still recommend chapura?

Almost all Windows Mobile devices sold over the past year are 5.0 version.
What specific make and model are you synching to? The Palm Treo 700W with
Verizon? (for example) Just reply again with your device specs and I'll be
able to tell what OS version it has. You can also check for this on the
device itself. When you say that you were "able to have your BCM contacts on
your PDA for a while" do you mean after you downloaded and installed the
Chapura Pocket Mirror app? This statement is not complete or clear enough to
interpret how to help you more.

Additionally, I absolutely recommend anything from Chapura because the stuff
they produce just plain works! If you ever have any difficulty, their
customer service is legendary!

Hi THP

Sorry for not being clear earlier:
- my unit is an HP iPAQ 6365, I bought it about 18 months ago, and use
it with Vodafone, here in the UK. On the back of the phone it just says
"Designed for Windows Mobile"
- no, I have not downloaded Chapura, but months ago, when I first
installed BCM on Outlook, I was also able to sync it on my PDA, but now
I cannot, even though ActiveSync recognises BCM as one of the items it
can and should sync...when it tries, it tells me "Attention Required"

Thanks for your help!

I have to agree about the Chapura product having used it on the Palm
platform as had a Treo 650 and needed BCM sync capability. As THP says
it does what it says on the tin. I had the full KeySuite product from
them for the Treo but now need either Pocket Mirror or to wait until
Microsoft enable syncing with Windows Mobile 5 devices!! as have just
changed to the new HTC TyTN (Orange SPV M3100) and so now cannot sync
with BCM.
There is a blog entry somewhere that says MObile 5 will be supported
but no timescale given, probably when 2007 is released so we will need
to buy that!

Your HP iPAQ 6365 has the older version of Windows Mobile 2003, not the most
recent Windows Mobile 5.0. Therefore, the BCM Pocket PC Active Synch
enhancement that was released with BCM v. 2 last summer of '05 is supported
with this device. Your "Attention Required" error is not related to device
compatibiity but rather is likely related to the configuration settings of
the synch conduits. It also could be related to something corrupted that
would require you to reinstall to correct. I would call Microsoft Tech
support and have them troubleshoot with you over this. You will NOT need to
purchase the Chapura Pocket Mirror professional for Windows Mobile because
you are not using the latest Windows Mobile 5.0. Your sync problem should be
somewhat easy to correct.

David,

If you do not want to wait for Microsoft to release this funtionality, you
can get this Chapura product albeit for $50. It does work very well (like
all of the chapura stuff) and because of its multiple folder synch capability,
it will handle your BCM business contacts just fine.

Do you have any idea how much it will cost to phone Microsoft tech
support? I fear it might be cheaper just to buy Chapura! (Actually, I
did download the Chapura free trial, which works greeat for BCM
(thanks!) but seems to double any annual reminders in my calendar, such
as for birthdays...not a big deal, I would much rather get my BCM
syncing properly!
Thanks for your help.

The beta version of the version that supports Windows Mobile 5.0 devices is
found here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...14-7143-41D9-84A9-BD628DB7B6A0&displaylang=en

This will work with the current version of Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
with Business Contact Manager Update, or the beta versions of the upcoming
Business Contact Manager release.

Fantastic :)
It works too.
Business Contact list on the PDA shows some square blocks after the
contacts name but only there it seems from limited testing.
Using Active Sync 4.5 beta and the link below and so far so good.
