can't stream or play downloaded music anymore!

Up until a few days go, I had no problem playing files on
web pages...be they MP3s or videos or RealMedia or
whatever. Just like you would expect, I click on the
file, it downloads, windows launches the associated
player, and it starts playing.

As of a few days ago...I don't know exactly when I
noticed it was a problem... all that happens, except it
doesn't start playing. The file downloads, the program
launches - be it WinAmp or media player or MusicMatch -
but nothing's loaded in it's playlist so it sits there
idle. If it's a RealMedia file, I get a "RealOne Player
could not locate the specified clip" after it downloads.

Thoughts? Places to turn? It's driving me batty as I
listen to online music all the time. Thanks in advance,
oh wise ones.

Does it work if you right-click on the link and choose Save Target As, save
the link to disk, and then try to play it?
