can't start windows normally

Hi

First of all I am on XP PROFESSIONAL. I think my computer might be
infected by a virus so i tried to get to safe mode to run antivirus
software. After trying to get to safe mode many times and
unsuccessful, I read some articles that suggested the configuration in
msconfig within Windows. I went to boots.ini I think and choose -safe-
mode. After applying changes, I re-started the machine and ever since
I never get pass the screen with choices to pick

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with dos

Start Windows normally

I chose every single option 1 at a time but it seems to always take me
to a 1 sec blue screen of death and re-start itself, then show me the
options above then go to the blue sceen again. I dont seem to be able
to pass this. I think it may be because of my msconfig so i wonder

Is there anyway I can override msconfig? I cant even get to the dos
mode.

What should I do?

Super sad now, I am totally have urgent work to do. Stupid virus.

Help me please
many thanks

At that F8 screen (where you see Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking...
etc) do you see an option to disable Automatic reboot on failure? If
you disable auto reboot you can get the contents of the blue screen and
post it here for further help.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I've followed your instructions and the message I see is:

Check for virus on your computer
Remove any newly installed hard drive or hard drive controllers. Check
your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive coruption and then restart your
computer.

Any ideas?

Thanks

And that is the only thing in the bugcheck message? Nothing that would
look like this (phony) example:

0xc000021a (0xe1270188, 0x00000001, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Do you have a real Windows XP CD? Do you know how to use the Recovery
Console? If yes you can try doing a chkdsk as suggested in the message.
