Can't Start Win2k Server

J

Joe Martinez

Running W2K server and Exchange 2000, latest SP's loaded. On startup I am
presented with the following message: "Directory services could not start
because of the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.
Error status 0xc000000f" I checked KB article 240362 which deals with a
missing ntds.dit, however, that file does exist in the winnt\ntds folder.
The Directory Service event viewer has the following entry: The Windows
Directory Service database could not be initialized and returned
error -1811. Unrecoverable error, the directory can't continue.

Any assistance in correcting this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Start your server in DSRM mode and use ntdsutil to check your AD database.
Besides the existence of AD database files, check the permissions set on
NTDS folder.
