Active directory will only start in save mode

Event log error under Directory Service Event ID: 1168
Message: Error-550(fffffdda) has occurred (Internal ID
404e0). Please contact Microsoft Product Support Service
for assistance.

I restored a copy of the NTDS.dit file to the \winnt\NTDS
folder, but no change in the error.
The database file is clean.

In the system event log I get Event ID: 7023 the Kerberos
KDC service terminated with the follwing error: The
security account manager (SAM)or local security authority
(LSA) server was in the wrong state to perform the
security operation.

Set the KDC service on Disabled or Manual no change.

Did a Systemstate restore (using NTBACKUP utl.)selected
original location as well alternate location pointing to
the C: drive, did not change the problem.
Any suggestions ??????
