Can't start WIA (Windows Image Acquisition)

I can't start the WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) service.

I get "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectantly"
This is occurs whether the startup type is in Automatic or Manual.

The Event Viewer states:
The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service terminated unexpectedly. It has
done this 41 time(s).

There is a WIA debug file in (C:\\Windows\wiadebug.log)which contains:
