Can't start Vista Mail when forwarding a link to a webpage

I had problems not being able to automatically invoke
Windows Mail when clicking on an address and that
issue was solved by running a MailTo.reg-file.

Now, i noticed that i have a similar issue when i try
to send a link to the current webpage i'm viewing.
When i choose File->Send, there are options to
send a link and a page but they are greyed out.

How can i solve THIS issue?

Yes, i have tried giving all the standard priorities
to the Vista Mail. ALl three are set to be there.

Thanks in advance!

Also make sure that Internet Explorer has all its defaults:
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on Internet Explorer.
If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults" then fix it by
clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

I've done that already. IE has all 9 available defaults assigned
to it and it still doesn't help.

I had the same problem clicking on email addresses too and a
friendly soul by the name Frank Saunders gave a text piece to
run as a .REG file which actually got the job done.

I was expecting/hoping for a similar solution in this case as well.

The MailTo.reg fix should have fixed that.
Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

This article discusses your issue:

However, I believe you have already tried the suggested
corrective action. You might try resetting Internet Explorer:
Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Reset. Save your cookies first
because that will delete them.

I've read the article and the only thing i noticed was that
the last post refered to a file "mailclients.reg" instead of
"mailto.reg". is it the same file only named differently or
are there two different functionalities in them?

I'll reset IE hoping the problem will go away but i fear
that it won't and what do we do then? *scared* :)

This is strange - i can't get the "File" menu to show (or any
other menu for that matter). I'm using the usual shortcuts
and i've even tested them in e.g. Windows Explorer where
they worked just fine.

Also, a few times i couln't start IE and got message that the
item the shortcut was pointing to seemed to be missing.
Pressing ctrl+n in already open IE showed a frame that
disappeared a second later... An hour later, it worked
again! Any thouhgts? (Other than "wow, what's he smoking...")

Perhaps i should reinstall IE? How?

Did you try pressing the Alt key to get the File menu?
I don't think there is any way to reinstall IE7 in Vista.
You would have to do a repair-install of Vista:

Yes. *almost insulted* :)

Actually, i've googled the solution to the issue. To
whomever it might concern - it was as follows.
1. Go into Tools on the right part of the window,
right below the red "close me"-cross and "Live
Search".
2. Find a submenu where "Links" are and check
it/uncheck it repeatedly.
3. Uncheck "Menu" in that Tools-button.

I know, it sounds disturbed. But it did actually
work! Strange but true (in my case, at least...).
