can't show unopened mail icon when a new mail come

my system is xp pro for english, recently,it can't show the unopened mail icon in the taskbar when a new mail come, can you help me? thanks a lot.

Make sure the option is set to display the icon and that the Notification
Area is set to show the envelope

Hi,
I guess there is some downgrade in envelope icon functionality. In Outlook
2002 envlope was shown for each new letter, even it comes into to the nested
folder (by sorting rules). In Outlook 2003 envelope is shown just for Inbox.
My users complain about such behaviour.

I know I can add "show notivication" option for each rule" but:
1. after that all of them become client-side and don't work when Outlook is
not running,
2. this option shows addidtional window (not transparent, other) with
notification text and there is no way to disable its showing.
