can't set up MSN email accounts

I have 10 email accounts (2 Hotmail, 8 MSN). I am a MSN Premium member. I
was able to set up the 2 hotmail accounts without a problem, but the 8 MSN
email accounts won't work. I set them up in add accounts just like the
hotmail (except that I chose MSN), finish, then close out and restart outlook
2003. When I click on the + next to the MSN email account, I get the
following message : "unable to expand the folder. The set of folders could
not be opened. This error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are
using is:
Unavailable
Protected with file permissions
On a share on a server and the network is down
Corrupt
To correct this problem, store the OST or PST file on the local computer.
You may also want to run the scanost.exe and scanpst.exe tools to verify
file integrity.
More information about this error message online. "

I don't really understand what this message means or what I need to do, but
I did go directly to hotmail to sign into that account and it works just fine
there. Please help me understand what I should do so that I can have all of
my email accounts in one place (Outlook 2003).

Thank you!

Are you creating http accounts or using the outlook connector? How new are
the msn accounts? it can take up to 24 hours for the accounts to work with
http.

If I remember correctly (because I did actually do this yesterday), I
selected HTTP, but then I got a popup that asked if I wanted to use outlook
connector and I said yes. The MSN accounts are probably more than 1 year
old, although I am just starting to use Outlook 2003 for my email (I was
having way too many problems that tech support couldn't resolve with MSN9, so
I got tired of dealing with it and decided to use Outlook 2003). I hope this
information helps! Thank you for your response!

I've had three working with it - so I know it can handle more than two....
but I'm not sure how many more.

Did you restart outlook after adding the accounts?

I would do one of two things to troubleshoot - remove the accounts from the
profile, restart outlook (check in task manager to see if outlook closed
correctly) and add the accounts back. alternately, close outlook, go to
control panel mail and create a second profile. Add the accounts and see if
they work.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I restarted Outlook 2003 after each account
that I added. Actually, I tried your first troubleshiiting method before I
even posted my question here on this board. As a result of removing the
accounts that didn't work (the MSN accounts), I have several "orphaned"
accounts (meaning that when I click on the +, it gives me an error message)
on the left side of my screen under "All Mail Folders". so then, I decided
to try to re-add them, which resulted in dulpicate listings on the left side
of my screen under "All Mail Folders". Now, I'm really in a pickle and I'm
quite frustrated trying to get out of it. Any other suggestions on how I can
fix this or where I can go to find help? Uninstalling/reinstalling Outlook
isn't really an option since I also have several pop3 accounts, so I would
lose that information and I would need to use the backup to recover that
information (which would put me right back to where I am now, right?).

you have ghosts now. the easiest way to clear them up is to make a new
profile... but since you have several pops, it can be a PITA. If you are up
to it, you can try editing the registry. if you screw up, the worst that
will happen is you'll have a wasted an hour and still need a new profile...

look for the profile here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles - find and delete all
keys (left side) that have the msn account information in them- msn
accounts use ost files for mail, so look for file paths ending in ost. Under
one key there will be several keys named 000001, 000002 etc - these are your
accounts - look there first. But you may also have some in other keys that
have the path to the msn ost files.

if it screws up or doesn't fix it - make a new profile.

Thank you for continuing to help me.

I have gone into the registry using the path you gave below, but I didn't
see what you were writing about. I went one level lower (Outlook) and saw
approximately 50 folders. Only one of those folders broke down into other
folders. My problem is that I can't find anything in any of these containing
"ost". Can you explain this further? I'm not quite sure what I'm looking
for. I did find the one folder that had the keys you wrote about (00001,
00002, etc), but I don't see any file paths or anything that says "ost" in
any of these keys. I did notice that each of these keys (000001, 00002, etc)
mentions either MAPI or POP3. Should I just delete every key (deleting it on
the left side) that mentions MAPI (since MAPI email accounts can be re-added
without losing any information...I think?)?
