Can't set paging file

I'm getting very frustrated. The system keeps reporting that htere is no
paging file. I try setting a page file with the system properties control,
and nothing ever gets set. I have checked the permissions at the root of c:,
and both the Administrators and System have full control rights. Chkdsk
reports no errors. None of the previous postings in this newsgroup have
provided a resolution. (Intel 915 Express chipset, so the Intel Application
Accelerator doesn't apply.) Nothing in the event logs says anything about
page files.

Any ideas? I'm about ready to wipe the darn thing and start over.

Set to:"let windows manage" then click set 2 times, close out,a restart will
be prompted if done correctly. Also, application accelerator was replaced last
year with matrix technology then to matrix mgr,get the updates...

check PagingFiles value in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory
Management

value must be of REG_MULTI_SZ type and data must be in format:
[drive:][path][filename] [Initial_Size_in_MB] [Maximum_Size_in_MB] (example:
c:\pagefile.sys 1536 3072)

If the value/data is corrupt, delete it first, then recreate by using paging
file tab in system (don't forget to click on 'set').
