Can't send-receive Outlook 2003. Re-install - Icon gone from tool

Re-install of Outlook 2003 after reformat hard drive. It worked for a day.
Reconfigured old .pst file. Now it won't function at all.

Send- Receive Icon flickers on at Outlook start, then disapears. Not
available in tools drop down. Tools also missing "Rules".

Have deleted all e-mail accounts & reloaded 2 of them. "test account
settings" says it works on both, however no e-mails sent or received. When
in new message mode clicking on "accounts" gets error message "... A fatal
error has occurred in outlook.

Have tried to go back to new setup .pst with same results.

State exactly how you "reconfigured"/

I'd try a new mail profile.

Brian,
Incorrect terminology. I changed from my old .pst data back to the .pst
file that was set up when I reinstalled Outlook.

Where can I find the instructions for setting up a new mail profile?

Note, Recognize I entered this problem twice. Newbie problem of not
understanding how the process works. Appreciate that you've looked at it
twice.

Been thinking about the timing of this. Yesterday I installed AVG
Anti-virus & Ad-Aware. looking at the times on the folder set ups, both were
after the last time I saw Outlook working. I'm guessing this has something
to do with it, but looking at the set up info, I can't see what I need to
turn off/on.

Had I noticed, I'd probably have asked you to post once and wait a while for
the answer.

AVG can integrate with Outlook, but my advice is to uninstall it and
reinstall it without the mail checking feature. You don't need it.
Ad-Aware has no interaction with Outlook whatsoever.

Brad,

Deleting AVG didn't impact it.

Setting up the new profile looks fixed it. Everything looks like it's
supposed to & is working.

Still have to reset up some rules & work e-mail addresses + re-install AVG.

Thanks for the expert help. WIsh I had asked sooner instead of fighting
with it for so long.
