CAN'T SEND MAIL

P

Padrebob

When sending mail I get te following errors:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re:
Emailing: DSCF9816', Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server:
'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 5.7.0 No AUTH
command has been given.', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530,
Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

You can use the TechNet to find solutions to problems such as this. For
email errors, use the Error Number: ("0x800CCC78"), as in:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Search/en-US?query=0x800CCC78&ac=8

One of the results is:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942495

For error 0x800CCC78 it says "This error occurs because you have the
incorrect e-mail address in the Reply-To field)", but that might not be the
cause of your problem. Check the "Reply-To" in case that is the problem.
Look through the other results of the search.

The error number itself is often misleading, as it was in this instance.

Or incorrectly documented. There are other explanations in other results
from the search. Some of the descriptions say access denied, which is
probably more accurate.

We can't do much with just the error number.
Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste the whole thing
into a reply here.
