One day my Windows Mail decided that it won't let me send any emails. I use
Earthlink and have been able to send through the website but not through
Windows Mail like usual.

All the number and output addresses are correct. Nothing has changed.

Help?

Which one do I click?
I get this message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Re: Observations', Account: 'Megan Dacy', Server:
'smtpauth.earthlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

My ports are what they should be and the incoming and outgoing addresses are
what they should be.

What do you want to know which one of to click?

You may wany to check your Earthlink settings:

http://kb.earthlink.net/case.asp?article=192059

What I see there suggests that different Earthlink customers need
to use different settings.

Also, what if any antivirus or other security programs do you have?
Some of them tend to cause assorted problems in Windows Mail,
although seldom immediately.

I checked them. Everything is correct. I have McAfee but that is also not
working so I don't think it's an anti-virus software problem.

Most of the McAfee antivirus programs tend to cause problems in
Windows Mail even if they are disabled. So do most of the Norton
antivirus programs and a recent antivirus program from Trend. Each
of these needs to be uninstalled to stop them from creating new
problems. You should also run this cleanup program:

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

You may even have to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then create it again, to finish the cleanup.

If this solves your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program. I recommend either avast! or AVG, either one with a
custom install that tells it to leave out the part that scans email.

I uninstalled and reinstalled McAfee but it doesn't work and my email still
won't work. I keep getting the same error message.

Are you on a laptop computer, and are you using it away from home
when you get that error?

Guys, I been following this problem with Windows Mail for few days now.
I have tried all different suggestions but none work!
I have even removed Norton and installed Bell Symaptico own Internet
Security (which they said it wiil work, sorry lost money).
I called HP support (I have a HP Notebook) but hey can't fix it.
They told me to call MS, alas, they want $60.00 in order to fix it.
As I can see it, we have to pay in order to fix their own stupidity.
Thank MS!

Haha gosh. I think we should all get macs.

I have also tried Windows Live Mail. same problem, cannot send mail,
everything else is OK.

Does your connection to that server cross from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it gets there? If so, and you are using
port 25, such connections are often blocked to cause trouble for
spammers. You might check if your email provider has set their
outgoing email server to listen for outgoing mail on any other port.
There are about 65,000 ports available, so just trying them all is a
rather slow way to do this.

How Bell Sympatico sets up his servers I do not know and they do not tell.
Yes, the port is 25 howvever I have tried 62 and one other has it was
suggested but no luck, I even tried send.sympatico.ca as one suggested but no
luck either.
I will try several different ports and see if that works.
