Can't select iCalendar format for meeting requests over the internet

We've recently installed SBS 2003 Premium and upgraded
email clients to Outlook 2003. Meeting requests to people
outside our exchange group don't work. I found the
option under calendar options to send requests over the
internet in iCalendar format but it is greyed out and
can't be turned on. I don't know why.

Turning on this option on Outlook 2000 had fixed our
problem so I assume it would also work in 2003 if I can
activate it.

We have exactly the same problem, except that some recipients outside our network receive them OK and others do not. In our case the iCalendar option cannot be switched on. It is greyed out. Still trying to find out why?
