Can't See Workgroup

I have a small LAN (via a workgroup) connected via a 3Com
10/100 switch. We are able to connect to other computers
by mapping to them, but we cannot see the other computers
when we select "view workgroup computers." We can ping
each PC by IP address and hostname, but we cannot browse
them at all.

All PC are running Win XP Pro. Most folks are running an
anti-virus software, but I've tried disabling it with no
luck. I've restarted the switch with no luck. I've
stopped and restarted the "Computer Browser" service with
no luck. I'm running out of ideas.

I also have that problem at times. The only thing you can
really do is use the set up home or small office network
wizard again. make sure all computers are connected to
the switch, printers on, and so on. once you run the
wizard on all of them restart them. make sure your work
group name is the same on all of them. having the same
work group name is very important.ex) MSHOME on all of
them. also remember xp pro only allows 10 computers to be
active at one time in peer to peer network. and don't
mess with the ip. ip config on peer to peer networks are
things of the past. let windows optain the ip
automacticly. try this and if it does not work feel free
to email me. (e-mail address removed)

running even a small peer to peer network is hard work
for the average joe.
