I don't post here much, but thought I'd ring in on one thing here Mr.
Hatter, sir...
1. teh driver support is SHIT, most times, even if something DOES
work...yeah...it's not even coming anywhere the **** remotely close to
actually making use of the hardware's full potential.

It was $hit, but it's getting better, and with every passing day/week/
month, corporate sponsorship is growing, and
you can't argue that it's marketshare is growing,

Taken from Cnet in 2000, "Linux will pose a significant threat to
Microsoft for market share among server operating systems over the
next few years, according to new research released today."

Taken from ITFacts.biz in 2004 (who I'm sure is VERY reputable ',-) )
"Market researcher IDC expects to announce within weeks that Linux PC
market share in 2003 hit 3.2%, overtaking Apple Computer Inc.'s MacOS.
And the researcher expects Linux to capture 6% of this market by 2007.
That's still tiny compared with Microsoft's 94% share."

Then, just last Feb, IDC released this... "In servers, IDC predicts
Linux' market share based on unit sales will rise from 24% today to
33% in 2007, compared with 59% for Windows. In a survey of business
users by Forrester Research, 52% said they are now replacing Windows
servers with Linux. On the desktop side, IDC sees Linux' share more
than doubling, from 3% today to 6% in 2007, while Windows loses a bit
of ground. IDC expects the total market for Linux devices and software
to jump from $11 bln last year to $35.7 bln by 2008. "
2. obviously gaming is limited. Wine will work with VERY simplistic
applications, but you start tryin to use it on high end
stuff...mmm...dunno work so good.

Gaming will be the last consideration by the majority, but the gamers'
community will help it grow, that's the great
thing about OSS
3. there's a LOT of specialized Windows software that simply will not
work on Linux and often there is either no alternative or if there is
an alternative it's not as good as the Windows one.

You mean I can't get Konqueror to work on Vista? Gee... why not?
4. development platforms and distribution formats like Flash, most
often Linux is the LAST os they even consider since it's hardly in use
by anybody as a desktop environment. That means if you're using
Windows you ALWAYS get first view of any new and emerging tech, where
as with Linux you often have to wait a year or two before they'll even
bother to port it. I mean just look at how long it took them to get
Flash 9 for Linux...hell it was so far behind they SKIPPED an entire
version. So for almost two years Windows and Mac users had exclusive
access to Flash 8 and later Flash 9 content before they FINALLY got it
on Linux (and it's still only a beta...although so far it's worked
with everything I've thrown at it).

Go figure.... that would be a drawback of the OSS, not as much
motivation to get a product released...
Really those four things are what make Linux such an inferior desktop
operating system...and they won't go away...EVER. Linux is great for
a LOT of things, like symmetric multi-processing and running a web
server (which is what I use it for), but a desktop environment for
surfing the web and shit...man that's just ****in stupid. I mean that
is just ball up, Jesus killing, child molesting retarded...it really
is...ESPECIALLY if your only reason is that you're too gawd damn
****in retarded to figure out how to avoid getting infected with
Malware. There are *SO* many different options and ways of preventing
Malware infections on Windows...yeah...I can't see as how it would
EVER reach a point where you would need to resort to Linux (except out
of sheer ****ing stupidity). Seriously, installing Deep Freeze is a
**** of a lot better than retarding back to such a deficient form of
desktop environment like Linux. That's like cutting off your nose to
try and spite your face. I mean, did you even BOTHER looking for
solutions to your Malware problem on Windows or did you just retard
directly to Linux?

So let me see if I got this... Just because it's capable of symmetric
multi-processing, it should be a server instead of a desktop OS.
Hmm... well, not
to get too 'technical' and stuff... but what does that matter, who has
the right to say, and so what if I want to run a dual xeon box running
Mepis, PCLinuxOS, or heck, DamnSmallLinux, who the #uck cares? What
does it matter? I didn't have to pay for the OS license?

As much crap as you're giving linux, it would seem as though you
either don't like it or don't know it...

We certainly agree that bad software creates an easy target. Windows
OS is a bandaid approach to writing software, no question. But linux,
well, it's just written better, written well, and written more
secure. I didn't say it WAS secure, don't misinterpret what I say...
it's just not been around long enough to be as big of a target...
Lets just pretend that in 30 years, linux and MS are 50/50, who would
be a bigger target?
